What is Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT)
Superficial Radiation Therapy, commonly known as SRT, is a low-energy radiation that goes no deeper than the thickness of the skin. SRT delivers a precise, calibrated dose of radiation that targets the abnormal and more rapidly dividing cells while allowing the surrounding normal tissue time to repair itself.  SRT offers a painless, safe and highly effective non-surgical skin cancer treatment.
Georgia Skin & Cancer Clinic proudly offers SRT, a proven non-surgical treatment option for Basal Cell and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (non-melanoma skin cancers). SRT can be used to treat lesions on the arms, legs, back and trunk.  It is especially well suited for skin cancers located on the head and neck. With the addition of  Superficial Radiation Therapy, we are able to provide not only a cosmetically pleasing result, but also another treatment option for high risk surgery patients, including patients with diabetes and cardiac diseases. SRT offers excellent cure rates that rival surgery. SRT is widely recognized by insurance companies as an effective therapy and is covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare.
What conditions can be treated with SRT?
Keloid scars
Basal cell carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma
Metatypical carcinoma
Cutaneous appendage carcinoma
Actinic keratosis
Kaposi’s sarcoma
What can I expect with SRT?
Patients usually undergo a series of treatments depending on the nature and extent of the cancer.  You should expect the same results as surgery, but with these additional benefits:

No cutting, bleeding or stitching
No pain
No downtime
No anesthesia
Minimal to no scarring
No lifestyle restrictions
No need for post treatment reconstructive surgeries
Fast healing process
Very short procedure time
