What is a dermatologist?

A dermatologist is a physician who is trained to evaluate and manage patients (pediatric and adult) with benign and malignant disorders of the skin, hair, nails and adjacent mucous membranes. A dermatologist has had additional training and experience in the following:

  • The diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers, melanomas, moles, and other tumors of the skin
  • The management of contact dermatitis and other inflammatory skin disorders
  • The recognition of the skin manifestations of systemic and infectious diseases
  • Dermatopathology
  • Surgical techniques used in dermatology
  • Disorders of skin, hair loss, scars and skin changes associated with aging

What is a Physician Assistant (PAs)?

Physician Assistants are health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physicians. PAs deliver a broad range of medical and surgical services to diverse populations in rural and urban settings. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and prescribe medications. PAs receive their national certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Only graduates of an accredited PA program are eligible to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE). PAs are dedicated and skilled patient care providers.

What is a Nurse Practioner (NPs)?

NPs are advanced practice nurses who provide high-quality healthcare services similar to those of a doctor. NPs diagnose and treat a wide range of health problems. They have a unique approach and stress both care and cure. Besides clinical care, NPs focus on health promotion, disease prevention, health education and counseling. They help patients make wise health and lifestyle choices. Nurse Practitioners dedicate themselves to providing the very best medical care while maintaining a personalized relationship with patients. NPs have graduate, advanced education and clinical training beyond their registered nurse preparation. Most have master’s degrees and many have doctorates. Nurse Practitioners truly are your healthcare partner.
